I’ve recently been to Dale Chihuly’s exhibition at Halcyon Gallery in New Bond Street. He primarily works with drawing, painting and glass blowing. He was one of the pioneers of working with glass blowing as an art form. I remember being fascinated with that chandelier at the V&A. It was one of his works.
I find his commitment to the material very commendable. In a little corner, a film documenting the process of creating these spectacular pieces plays and it does not look half as effortless as the pieces themselves look. Every piece almost looks alive. The colour, shine and textures are so wonderfully fluid and vibrant.
